At one point in time, airline flights were considered a luxury. It cost a small fortune to fly, even within the United States. Airline flights overseas were reserved for the more financial fortunate.
It was especially expensive to fly at the last minute. Airline flights seem to have an added premium when ever you had to fly unexpected. Changing your flight plans could also cost a small fortune.
Then airlines began adding seats to the planes to increase capacity (and profits) and airline flights became less romantic and much less expensive. Today, you can still pay for the premium seats, but most people endure the cheap seats in order to get where they want to go at the lowest expense.
It looks as though the trend for airline flights is once again about to change. Consumers are becoming more demanding about their rights. They expect more for the money that is being spent. Airlines will have to find a way to meet the customers' demands and still manage to maintain a profit.
It is the hope of many that not only with the airline flights make a move towards the direction of the luxury, but that the prices will remain reasonable as well. There are so many options today for travel purposes that the airlines must find a way to draw the customer in.
Speed is no longer the trigger. Between the early arrival requirements and the numerous delays, most airline flights take as long as some forms of land travel. When you add in the tight seating, the lack of refreshments and all the other inconveniences, it is no wonder that more and more airlines are finding themselves in trouble.
If the airline companies want to continue to lead the travel industry, they will have to find ways to make airline flights more comfortable and enjoyable for the customers while keeping the prices reasonable.
