Many families are getting back to doing more traditional trips that the whole family can enjoy. There is still a time and a place for the trips that offer something different for every member of the family. But some of the best memories can be made on trips planned for (and by) the whole family.

Have a family meeting discuss the trips that would be most interesting to each of the family members. It could be that one has the perfect idea or that the perfect idea comes from the different suggestions.

Lay out a budget for the trips that you are considering. Determine the most important factors of the trips (in order) â like dining, activities, lodging, location and any others that the family consider important.

Be flexible in where the trips lead you according to the factors that are most important to the family.

Take some time to research the activities, attractions and events that are available in the areas where the different trips may take you. It could be that the attractions become the deciding factor (particularly if you can find lots of interesting events for little or no money).

Keep the family calendar handy when you are making plans for your trips. Nothing is more frustrating than planning the perfect family getaway only to be thrown off balance by a school event.

Let everyone have a say in the planning of the trips and you will find that the trips are more enjoyable for everyone.

Even if the economy seems to be pulling tighter on the purse strings, it is important to take trips together as a family. Family trips teach cooperation, patience and also build bonds and memories that will last a life time. Working together as a family to plan the trips will just increase the experience even more.
