Some of the best vacations are ones that get off the beaten path. Instead of taking off to the nearest or biggest resort, get creative with your next vacation.

1. Vacations become more than a getaway when you look at the adventure sports tours that are available all around. A trip over some white water rapids or climbing up mountains will make for memorable vacations but will also increase your overall health and stamina.

2. Vacations don't just have to be about getting away, they can be about expanding your mind (or your opportunities). Find a conference or convention that will give you more than just a few days at the beach.

3. You can choose to get away for the day, the week or the month. There is no predetermined length for vacations. Plan around your schedule and your budget to create the experience of a lifetime.

4. Take along a friend or travel with a group. Although being by yourself for vacations can offer a great time, so can meeting new people or spending time with the ones that are already close to you.

5. Go for the quirky sites and experiences when you are planning vacations. Instead of following the "industry trends" you could follow Route 66.

6. Take vacations often and make them all different. Use the time to experience new sites and sounds (eat the local cuisine, see the non-tourist sites).

When you are planning your vacations, keep it all about you. Do the things that you love, but also be willing to step outside your normal box. Vacations are a great time to learn something new, to experience a new culture or to do things that you would never consider doing under normal circumstances. Take a chance on your vacations – climb a mountain, sail the ocean and experience the world.
