There are some places in the United States that everyone should see at some point in their life. Some are related to the history of the country. Some are just amazing examples of the innovation and creativity that has made this country what it is. All the sites are places that will leave an impression after you find your way to them.
1. The Gateway Arch in St. Louis is not only a marvel of engineering, but is it a monument to all those who pioneered this great land.
2. The Washington National Cathedral is beautiful and breathtaking. It is also a feat of architectural design. When you visit, take time to appreciate the stone works and the stain glass windows.
3. Today man is berated for destroying nature. In 1858, man created acres of natural wonder in Central Park. What was once rocky, swampy and treeless is now a green haven in the heart of New York City.
4. The Hoover Dam is worth a visit just to see what determination can create. For years man tried to tame the Colorado River and failed. It took tons of concreted (which experts predict may actually still be wet deep inside the structure) and only five years to show the elements who really is boss.
5. The Brooklyn Bridge is a bridge that "could never be built." The waters were too swift and the water traffic to heavy. Creativity and determination proved that all things really are possible.
6. Mt. Rushmore is what happens when one man becomes determined to increase tourism. Creativity and ingenuity created the largest sculpture in the world. When you visit you are sure to be overwhelmed by the massive nature of the creation.
You may not be able to visit all of the wonders that have been created in the United States, but it won't hurt to try. Start this year and take one state at a time. Each state has a number of wonders worth taking the time and effort to visit.
