Check-in Information

Air Canada passengers may check in online or in person at the airport. Passengers are encouraged to check in at least one hour before departure for flights within Canada, 1.5 hours before US departures, and 2 hours before international flights. The recommended check-in time for flights to Beijing, Caracas, Grand Cayman, London Heathrow, Paris and Tel Aviv is between 2-3 hours. Passengers must have a boarding pass and have dropped off checked baggage at the counter before the check-in deadline.

Baggage Fees

Carry on
Each passenger is allowed to carry on one standard article and one personal article. The standard article must have a maximum weight of 22 lbs. (10kg) and a maximum size of 9" x 15.5" x 21.5" (23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm). The personal article must also have a maximum weight of 22 lbs (10kg) with a maximum size of 6" x 13" x 17" (16cm x 33 cm x 43 cm).

Checked
Baggage allowances vary by type of service and the passenger. A maximum of 2 bags weighing 50 lbs. each are allowed on Economy Service flights; up to 3 bags are allowed for Executive Class and Star Alliance Gold passengers; and 4 bags are permitted for Air Canada Super Elite and Elite passengers. Review all baggage requirements through the Air Canada checked baggage section http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/baggage/checked.html. No bags exceeding 70 lbs in weight or 115 inches in linear dimensions will be accepted as checked baggage.

Additional bags
Excess baggage fees are $75 for travel within North American and $100 for international travel. Air Canada no longer charges the $25 second bag fee for airfares within North America.

Ticket changes are accepted on non-rfeundable tickets, and can be made by calling the reservations desk.

Child Fares

Children under two years who can comfortably sit in an adult's lap may fly free on domestic flights. Children under two years who can comfortably sit in an adult's lap may fly internationally by paying 10 percent of the adult fare.

Pet Fees

Only cats and dogs are accepted for flights on Air Canada, and the 'pets in cabin' service is no longer available. Pets are accepted in the baggage compartment, and incur a fee of $105 CAD/USD each way for travel within Canada and the United States, and $270 CAD/USD each way for international flights. A single passenger may not travel with more than two animals.

Musical instruments are considered to be standard carryon luggage. A separate seat may be purchased for large instruments.

In-flight Services

Air Canada offers complimentary meal service for almost all international flights, and options vary by duration and destination. Air Canada also offers in flight movies, and complimentary magazine.

Airline Food

Meal services include two main entrees, breakfast service, and hot and cold beverages. Passengers flying to the United States may have the option to purchase food from a flight cafe menu. Passengers with dietary restrictions may make a special request for food during their reservations process.
