Air New Zealand offers both domestic and international travel to key destinations in Australia, the Pacific Islands, North America, Asia and Europe. The airline was founded in 1940, and began with flying boat services across Tasmania, Fiji and the Cook Islands. Air New Zealand is headquartered in Auckland.

Passengers traveling on international flights are encouraged to check in no later than 90 minutes before departure; those traveling to and from the USA are encouraged to arrive at least 2 hours prior to departure to complete all security and check-in requirements. Domestic passengers may check in no later than 30 minutes before departure, and 60 minutes for travel to international destinations.

Allowances for carry on baggage for domestic flights are as follows:
One piece of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) and maximum total dimensions (length + width + height) of 115cm (45") on jet services or 105cm (41") on Air New Zealand Link services.
Star Alliance Gold Customers (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) passengers may take two pieces with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) and maximum total dimensions (length + width + height) of 115cm (45") on jet services or 105cm (41") on Air New Zealand Link services.
Allowances for carry on baggage for international flights area as follows:
Pacific Economy Class passengers: one piece of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) and maximum total dimensions (length + width + height) of 115cm (45").
Pacific Premium Economy Class passengers: one piece of cabin baggage with the same conditions as above.Exception: Two pieces are permitted if your journey departs from London, UK.
Business Class and Star Alliance Gold passengers: two pieces of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) and maximum total dimensions (length + width + height) of 115cm (45").

For domestic New Zealand flights, Standard flight passengers may take 1 piece of baggage weighing up to 25 kg, and Gold Elite/Gold/Star Gold and Koru Club Members may take up to 2 piecs of baggage weighing up to 25 kg each. Children and infants are entitled to the same baggage allowance as the accompanying adult. For flights to and from the USA, Canada or Tahiti, Economy and Business travelers may take up to 2 pieces of carry on each with a 50-70 lb. limit,

Child fares vary by destination, but the fare for children between the ages of 2 and 11 years of age is 75 percent of the standard adult fare. Children under five years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Cats, dogs and small caged birds can travel as checked-in baggage on all domestic services. Pets that have a combined weight of up to 25 kg will have a handling fee of NZ $50, and those with a weight of 26kg or above will have a handling fee of NZ$75. Pets must travel as cargo for international flights.

Musical instruments that are larger than 100 cm in length are considered to be standard luggage and must be checked in as checked in baggage. Musical instruments cannot weigh more than 32 kg.
