Alaska Airlines is based in SeaTac, Washington and operates from four major hubs in Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Portland International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The airline's first service took place between Anchorage and Bristol Bay in 1932, and was formerly known as Alaska Star Airlines.

Check-in Information
Passengers may use the web check-in system up to 24 hours before their scheduled departure. Check in also takes place at the airport, and passengers are encouraged to arrive at least 90 minutes prior to departure to complete their check in process.

Baggage Fees
Carry-On
One carryon bag is permitted per passenger, and cannot exceed 51 inches in total height, width and length. A personal item in addition to the carryon bag is also permitted.
Checked
Each passenger may take up to two pieces of baggage on board at no additional charge. Each checked bag can weigh up to 50 lbs. and cannot be larger than 62 inches in total length.
Additional bags
Excess bags that weigh between 51-70 lbs. or are larger cost an additional $25; between 71-100 lbs. cost $50, and bags that weigh more than 100 lbs. are not permitted on the flight.

Passenger Change Details
Changes can be made online for only some reservations, and can only be made on tickets in the future. Web specials, e-certificates, and Award tickets are not eligible for passenger changes.

Child Fares
Children up to two years of age who can comfortably sit in an adult's lap may travel for free for domestic flights, but will incur a fee of 10 percent of the adult fare for travel outside North America.

Senior Fares
Passengers who are 62 years of age or older may receive a 10 percent discount on the standard adult fare on most routes.

Pet Fees
Small animals are permitted in the passenger cabin, and larger animals may be assigned to the baggage hold. Contact the reservations department to determine eligibility and any related fees.

Carrying Musical Instruments
Musical instruments may be taken as carryon as long as they meet carryon baggage requirements. Largermusical instruments may be taken on the flight if the passenger pays for an extra seat.

In-flight broadband wireless Internet services were launched in 2008, and Alaska Airlines also offers complimentary meals and snacks for passengers flying first class. Coach class passengers may purchase Picnic Packs for almost any transcontinental flight. Alaska Airlines is one of the first airlines to offer a portable audio-video-on-demand player, and offers digEplayers for rental on long-haul flights.
