Overview

British Airways is one of the UK's leading transatlantic and international airlines, and serves a global network of over 600 destinations. British Airways is the UK's largest airline with hubs at London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports. The British Airways group includes British Airways Plc and several subsidiary companies including British Airways Holidays Limited.

Check in

Passengers can check in online, at an airport kiosk or at a British Airways check-in desk. Online check in is available up to 24 hours before departure and passengers are encouraged to check in early enough to arrive at the boarding gate at least 35 minutes before the departure.

Baggage

British Airways has introduced a limit of 51 lbs (23 kg) for any single checked bag as part of the free baggage allowance, as of November 2008. The airline will not accept any items exceeding 32 kg (70lbs) except for musical instruments, TV news cameras and commercial spares.

Additional bags

All items over the free checked pieces and weight allowance will be charged as excess baggage. A maximum of 10 excess bags is permitted per passenger, and passengers may qualify for a discount by pre-paying online. All excess bags must fit within the dimeniosn of 158 cm (62 in) and cannot exceed a weight of 32 kg (except for musical instruments, TV news cameras and commercial spares). Excess baggage charges are as follows:

Longhaul flights: 90 pounds per bag or 72 pounds per bag if paid online (includes 20% discount)

Shorthaul flights: 35 pounds per bag or 28 pounds per bag if paid online (includes 20% discount)

UK Domestic flights: 25 pounds per bag or 20 pounds per bag if paid online (includes 20% discount)

Passenger change details

Passengers may not make any name changes but can modify their date and time by accessing the 'Manage My Booking' section on the British Airways home page, or contacting a reservations representative.

Child fares

Children between the ages of 2 and 11are charged 75 percent of the adult fare on long-haul routes. Children under the age of 2 who can sit comfortably in an accompanying adult's lap are charged 10% of the adult's fare.

Pets

Pets are typically considered to be cargo baggage and must travel via British Airways World Cargo. However, guide dogs are permitted in the cabin on most routes at no charge. Passengers who wish to take pets on their flight are encouraged to contact the reservations department to register their pet or guide dog.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Musical instruments may be taken on board a flight as long as they meet the weight and dimension requirements of carryon luggage. Larger items may be taken as checked luggage, but passengers also have an option of purchasing an extra seat for lager instruments.

In-flight service

British Airwyas offers a variety of menus and complimentary beverages for all travelers, and the type of food available depdnds on the duration and desitnaiton of the flight. British Airways also offers High Life entertainment including movies, radio channels and audio programmes,and the High Life, Business Life and First Life magazienes.

Since British Airways is a full-service airline, all passengers can enjoy either a hot meal or light snack on board depending on the duration and destination of the flight. Complimentary drinks are readily available on all flights, and services vary by class. First class travelers can enjoy a chef-prepared a la carte menu; Club World flyers can enjoy four-course dining, snacks and alcoholic beverages; Club Europe travelers can select from hot and cold dishes for flights of 60 minutes or more, in addition to a full English breakfast or Continental breakfast.

World Traveller Plus travelers can enjoy three-course meals and complimentary bar service; and Euro Traveller passengers can enjoy breakfast and complimentary snacks and drinks throughout the day. More information about different meal services and menus can be found here.
