With headquarters at Hong Kong International Airport, Cathay Pacific airlines offers both passenger and cargo transportation to select destinations around the globe.  The airline was founded in 1946 and was initially based in Shanghai; the airline was managed by Butterfield & Swire in 1948 and grew rapidly to become one of the nation’s top airlines.  Cathay Pacific serves 114 destinations in 37 countries and territories.

Check in

Members of The Marco Polo Club and Asia Miles, and those who purchase e-tickets, can use the online check-in services on the Cathay Pacific website for convenient check-in.  All passengers can also check-in at the CXpress kiosk and make seat changes online up to 90 minutes before departure.

Baggage

Carry on
All classes allow passengers to bring one free bag not exceeding 22x14x9 inches in size, including wheels, handles and side pockets.  Passengers of First Class, Business Class, Invitation, Diamond, Gold and Silver tier members of The Marco Polo Club who are not departing or transferring through London Heathrow Airport are also allowed to take an additional garmen bag no larger than 8 inches thick when folded in half, or one soft bag no larger than 8 inches thick.  Duty-free items are included in the cabin baggage allowance.

Checked
Travelers to and from the U.S., Canada and select South American countries may take up to two bags with a total weight of 70 lbs. each.  All other routes have a limitation of 44 lbs (economy class).

Additional bags
Cathay Pacific has a varying fee schedule for excess baggage based on the destination and airplane.  Passengers are encouraged to contact the reservations desk for specific rates and details about their excess baggage fees and limitations.
Passenger change details
Passengers may make changes to their flight by selecting the ‘Manage Your Profile’ link on the Cathay Pacific website.  Fees for changes vary depending on how the reservation was made, and what types of changes are needed.

Child fares

All aircrafts are equipped with special baby bassinets and baby food for infants. Infant fares are charged when an infant travels with a parent or guardian and does not occupy a seat; fares vary by destination and class, and passengers will need to contact reservations to determine the final fare for their travel party.

Pets

Cathay Pacific does not permit pets on any flight, but pets may be transported in the cargo department.  Service dogs are permitted in the passenger cabin.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Musical instruments may be carried on board as long as they meet standard carry-on baggage allowances.

In-flight service

In addition to a varied food and beverage menu, Cathay Pacific offers an in flight magazine for all flyers, along with music and entertainment options for select classes.

Airline food (menus)

Cathay Pacific is among the first airlines to use rice cookers, toasters and skillets on board to prepare fresh food for various class passengers.  Class passengers can select a la carte meals made fresh to order, and snack items and menus vary by season, route and flight class.  Cathay Pacific also serves wine, beer, tea and coffee on most flights.

In-flight Magazine

Cathay Pacific’s in-flight magazine Discovery  is a monthly publication available for all flights. It is printe din both Chinese and English.
