Overview

As the fourth largest airline in the United States, Continental Airlines serves hundreds of destinations in the Americas, Asia and Europe.  Continental Airlines celebrated its 70th Anniversary in July 2004, and traces its humble beginnings to a single-engine Lockheed aircraft that flew in1934.  The airline was once known as the “The Proud Bird With the Golden Tail’ and has earned several awards throughout its history as a reliable airline with superior customer service.

Check in

Passengers are encouraged to check in at least 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes prior to departure for international flights.

Baggage

Carry on
All passengers may take carryon luggage that weighs no more than 40 lbs or 18 kg.  For all departures except Belfast, passengers are allowed to take one bag and one personal item free of charge.  The must have dimensions no larger than 45 linear inches.  Passengers departing from Belfast are permitted just one bag for carryon with the same dimensions and weight requirements as stated above.

Checked
Passengers must pay a $15 fee per bag for all checked baggage, and a $25 fee for a second bag when traveling Economy class within the 50 U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.   Checked bags must weigh less than 50 lbs and be no larger than 62 linear inches.  The recently modified baggage acceptance policy can be reviewed here. http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/baggage/check.aspx

Additional bags
All baggage in excess of 70 pounds or 115 linear inches will not be accepted as checked baggage.  Passengers will not be allowed to take more than 4 bags per flight that are overweight or overise. Pasengers traveling in Economy Class with checked baggage over 50 lbs and not exceeding 70 lbs will be charged a rate of $50 per piece.  Customers traveling with checked baggage exceeding 62 linear inches will be charged $100 per piece. Excess baggage rates for travel to and from transatlantic destinations from the USA and Canada will be charged $150 per piece.

Passenger change details

Passengers may make changes to their flight details by logging into the ‘Manage Reservations’ page on Continental’s website.

Child fares

Children under two years of age can fly for free if they can sit comfortably on an accompanying adult’s lap.  A children’s fare is available for both domestic and international travel and varies by destination.

Senior fares

Senior fares are available for select destinations only.  Passengers who are of 65 years of age or older will need to contact the reservations department directly to review fare options.

Pets

Continental accepts pets on flights in the U.S. (except to and from Hawaii), and these animals must be carried in a pet carrier and stored in the aircraft cabin.  In most cases, the pet is considered to be carryon luggage and will incur a fee of $95 each way.  Passengers itnerestd in taking their pet on the aircraft will need to notify the reservations department when booking their flight.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Musical instruemtns may be carried on board if they meet checked baggage requirements.  In some cases, larger musical instruments may be carried on board if the passenger purchases an extra seat.

Beverages and snacks are offered on select flights depending on the duration, destination and class of the flight.

Snacks are available for Economy class passengers after 10 a.m. on most flights, and all passengers will receive complimentary beverages and snacks for flights of 2 hours or more.  Select flights also serve food baskets, beverages and snacks throughout the day.

Continental Magazine is the monthly in-flight magazine available on every flight.
