Overview
As Hawaii’s largest airline, Hawaiian Airlines serves 20 domestic and international destinations in the Pacific region. The airline was incorporated on January 30, 1929 as InterIsland Airways, Ltd and its inaugural flight was to Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii. The airline specializes in providing air transportation among the Hawaiian Islands from points in the Western U.S. and the South Pacific.

Check in

Web Check-In is available to all Hawaiian Airlines E-Ticket customers traveling on InterIsland and TransPacific flights; this service is not available for international destinations. Passengers who hold a paper ticket must check in with a Hawaiian Airlines agent at the airport. Passengers are encourage to check in at least two hours prior to scheduled departure on inter-island flights and at least three hours prior to departure on all other flights.

Baggage

Carry on
Passengers may bring one piece of carry-on luggage and one personal item on each flight, and may be limited depending on the size of the aircraft and storage availability. However, all carry on baggage cannot be larger than 45 linear inches or weigh more than 25 pounds.

Checked
Tickets issued on or after August 01, 2008, for travel on or after October 01, 2008 are charged a $15 fee each way for the first checked bag. A $25 fee each way is charged for a second checked bag.
For interisland itineraries, a $17 fee each way is charged for a second checked bag.

Additional bags
The free baggage allowance is one piece per passenger; for travel within the State of Hawaii, the first excess bag costs $17 and additional pieces cost $25. Excess baggage fees also depend on when the tickets were issued; contact the reservations department to confirm your actual rate. Hawaiian Airlines will not accept baggage that weighs more than 70 lbs, and any bag that weights more than 50 lbs and less than 70 lbs will be charged a $25 fee.

Child fares

Children under 5 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. All children traveling unaccompanied and who are accepted on the flight must pay a full adult fare. Additional service charges are collected for unaccompanied children, and these range between $35 to $100 each way depending on the route. Children who are under 2 years of age and who will be sitting in an adult’s lap may travel for free; international flights may require paying a percentage of published adult fares.

Senior fares
Seniors age 60 or older may receive a 10 percent discount on select published fares. Contact the reservations department for specific details on eligibility.

Pets

Hawaiian Airlines does not accept dogs and cats in the cabin on inbound flights to Hawaii, but some passengers may be able to transport pets as cargo on international flights. Contact the reservations department for more details.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Musical instruments are considered to be carry on luggage and will need to meet standard baggage allowance requirements. Passengers may purchase an extra seat for large or fragile instruments.
