Overview

Horizon Air was acquired by Alaska Air Group in 1969 and has since remained as a sister airline to Alaska Airlines. The airline has a general office in Seattle and a primary maintenance base in Portland. The company is recognized as one of the leading regional airlines in the United States.

Check in

Passengers may check in and print boarding passes 1 to 24 hours prior to departure by using the Web Check-In service on alaskaair.com. Passengers must have their bags checked at least 30-45 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights, and at least 60 minutes prior to departure on international flights. The boarding gate and check-in counters close 30 minutes before posted departure on all flights.

Baggage

Carry on
Passengers may take one piece of carry-on baggage no larger than 10”x 17” x 24” plus one personal item on each flight. At least one of these items must be stowed under the seat in front.

Checked
The first bag is checked at no charge. A second bag no larger than 62 linear inches and no heavier than 50 pounds may be checked for $25. Fees of $125+ are imposed for 3 or more bags being checked.

Additional bags
The first excess bag that meets the 62 inch and 50 lb height and weight requirement is charged a $25 fee. All additional bags that meet the height and weight requirements are charged a $100 fee. Overweight bags are charged a $50 fee and cannot weigh more than 100 pounds.
Passenger change details
Passengers may make changes to reservations by logging into the AlaskaAir.com website Reservation Change section and entering their last name and confirmation code on their ticket.

Child fares

An unaccompanied minor service charge of $75 is charged each way for children between the ages of 5 – 12 years old, and the service is optional for teenagers between the ages of 13 – 17. All children over 2 years of age pay a full fare, and children under two years of age who can comfortably sit in an adult’s lap travel for free.

None.

Pets

Some pets are allowed in the cabin for a fee of $75 each way and in the baggage hold for a fee of $100 each way. Passengers must contact the reservations department to provide information about any pets and animals since these can only be accepted on select flights.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Musical instruments are considered carryon luggage and standard baggage allowances apply.

In-flight service

Passengers can enjoy complimentary drinks on board each flight; a special menu is offered on flights of 3 hours or more. Select flights also feature music and other entertainment options.

Menu options vary depending on the duration and class of the flight, but most flights offer fresh meal and picnic packs for purchase as part of the Northern Bites program. These include snacks such as crackers, chocolate milk, applesauce, cheese and salami. Complimentary beverage service includes Jones soda and juice, and premium beverage services are also available at an extra charge.
