Overview
KLM is a Dutch airline that offers services in partnership with Northwest Airlines in the United States. It is the oldest airline in the world and serves as the national airline of the Netherlands. It operates both domestic and international passenger flights and offers cargo services to more than 90 destinations around the globe. KLM is based in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, and merged with Air France in May 2004 to form Air France-KLM.

Check in
Passengers can check in online, over the phone, using a self-service kiosk or at the airport check-in desk. Check-in desks at the airport open two hours before departure and close 40 minutes before departure for all European flights. Desks open two hours before departure and close 60 minutes before departure for all international flights; passengers may also check-in up to 30 hours and no later than 1 hour before departure using the online check-in system.
Baggage
Carry on
Passengers may take one piece of carry on luggage and one personal item on board. The carry-on item cannot weigh more than 22 lbs or be larger than 22 x 14 x 10 inches.
Checked
Passengers may take two checked bags free of charge on all flighs to the Canada and the U.S., and one bag on flights within Europe. Bags taken on flights to Canada and the U.S. cannot weigh more than 50 lbs or be larger than 62 linear inches. Bags taken on flights within Europe cannot be heavier than 44 lbs.
Additional bags
Excess baggage fees begin at $165 for all flights in the United States and may be lower for flights within Europe. Passengers will need to check with the reservations desk about the exact fees imposed per kilogram.

Passengers may make flight changes by contacting the reservations department; fees applied will depend on the type of flight and destination.
Child fares
Child fares are available for children under the age of 14, and children under 2 years of age are charged 10 percent of the adult rate.

Pets
Some pets are permitted in the cabin depending on the space availability. Pets may be required to be transported through KLM Cargo.
Carrying Musical Instruments
Musical instruments that meet standard baggage allowances may be considered checked or carry on luggage. Passengers may purchase an extra seat for oversized or fragile instruments.
In-flight service
Meal service is available depending on the flight duration and class. Special meal requests can be made with advance notice, and KLM offers hot and cold items throughout the day. Snacks and beverages are also available on shorter flights.

Flying Blue is KLM's frequent flyer program.
Airline food (menus)
KLM serve several American and European meals throughout the day on select flights. Anyone who has special dietary requirements or needs children's meals will need to contact reservations to make special menu requests.

KLM offers the award-winning Holland Herald magazine on all flights.
