Overview
Virgin America is a low-cost airline based in the United States and has been in operation since August 2007. The airline serves dozens of metropolitan cities on the Eastern and West Coast seaboards, and is based at the San Francisco International Airport. The airline is separate from Virgin Atlantic, and flies to just eight destinations in the United States, with a ninth destination available at the end of April 2009.

Check in
Virgin America offers three options for check-in: Online Check-In; Kiosk Check-In; and Counter Check-In. Online Check-In is available 24 hours prior to the flight and up to 90 minutes before departure. Kiosk Check-In is available up to 90 minutes before departure at the airport, and kiosks are located near the ticket counter. Counter Check-In is the available at the airport up to two hours before the flight.
Baggage
All guests are permitted to bring one carry-on and one personal item on board at no charge. One infant stroller or child safety seat may also be taken on board at no extra charge.
Main Cabin guests can check up to 10 bags for a fee of $15 per bag, and the first bag cannot weigh more than 70 lbs. Additional bags cannot weigh more than 50 lbs, and passengers who have purchased fully refundable Main Cabin tickets can check the first bag up to 70 lbs. for free, with bags two through ten at a fee of $15 each.
Bags can be no larger than a total size of 62 inches or oversized bags and overweight baggage fees will apply.
First Class guests can check one bag up to 70 lbs. free of charge, and one bag up to 50 lbs. free of charge. Bags three through ten that weigh up to 50 lbs. can be checked for a fee of $15 per bag.
The following overweight baggage fees apply for all passengers:
1st Bag weighing between 71-100 lbs: $100
Bags 2 through 10: 51-70 lbs: $50; 71-100 lbs: $100
Oversized bags that measure between 63-80 inches will be assessed a fee of $50.
Passenger change details
Changes must be made prior to the departure time, and will result in a $50 fee per guest for changes made online and a $75 fee per guest for changes made through the call center or at the airport. Canellations must be made prior to scheduled departure time and will be subject to a $50 fee online and $75 at all other channels (including the call center).

Pets
Virgin America does permit cats and dogs on board in the Main Cabin. Pets cannot be checked as baggage and cannot be seated in the Main Cabin Select or First Class Cabins. Animals must be carried in a kennel, and must be at least 8 weeks old and weaned. Cats and dogs cannot weigh more than 20lbs, and the kennel dimensions cannot be larger than 18x15x8 inches. All pets are assessed a $100 transportation fee.
Carrying Musical Instruments
Oversized musical instruments that are larger than 62 inches in dimension may be assessed standard oversize weight and size fees.
In-flight service
Complimentary and for sale food and beverages, pillows and blankets in the Main Cabin, Main Cabin Select and First Class, "Red Eye Sleep Kit" for sale, earplugs and sleep masks. A custom designed headset in three different colors is available for $2 at the boarding gate, and onboard through the RED Inflight entertainment system.
