Portland International - PDX Airport Information

Portland International Airport is the largest airport in Oregon.  More than 90% of the state's air travelers pass through this airport.  Tourists headed for Portland's cultural attractions or the natural attractions of Mount Hood and the Columbia River will land at PDX.  In addition, people traveling to and from smaller cities like Eugene often opt to fly from this major airport rather than from a smaller local one.

Alterative Airports
  • Hillsboro Airport (HIO) - 28 miles from downtown Portland
  • Eugene Airport (EUG) - 109
  • Seattle-Tacoma Airport (SEA) - 134 miles
A vast majority of travelers fly through PDX because fares are cheaper and schedules more convenient.

Ground Transportation
The Portland area is served by a public transit system known as the Tri-Met.  The Tri-Met's MAX (Metropolitan Area Express train) connects Downtown Portland with the airport.  Fares are $2-$3 and include a free transfer to a Tri-Met bus if necessary.  Taxis can be hailed outside of the terminal.  The average cost to Downtown Portland is $40-$50.  However, rush hour traffic can slow the trip and raise the fare.

Terminal information
PDX has a single terminal with five concourses.  Each concourse has some sort of dining option.  Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines serve Terminals A and B respectively.  Terminal C is home to Southwest Airlines, while Terminal D sees most of the airport's international flights.  Terminal E hosts United Airlines and Air Canada, among others.  Passengers with connecting flights can travel between concourses on the moving sidewalk known as the Concourse Connector.  Because it is in a secure area, those who use it will not need to pass through a security checkpoint before reaching their connecting flight's gate.

Places to Eat
As it is a smaller airport, Portland does not have an endless list of dining options.  However, travelers will be able to find everything from sit-down bar-and-grill restaurants to fast-food vendors.  There are also pubs and coffee shops.  Most shops and restaurants are located in the central area in between the concourses.

Amenities
Wireless internet can be accessed from 70% of the airport, including the central dining and shopping area and almost all gates.  The Concourse Connector is a passageway with a moving sidewalk that allows passengers to quickly move between concourses without having to pass through security checkpoints more than once.

Insider Tip
Portland International has been rated one of the most user-friendly airports in the US.  Passengers can take advantage of features like convenient public transportation to and from the city and the airport's Concourse Connector to significantly streamline their trip.
