Hotel of the Week: PGA National Resort & Spa

In Florida, avid golfers have a plethora of choices when it comes to choosing links to experience firsthand. However, for the serious golf enthusiast who wants to follow in the footsteps of the PGA’s greatest legends, there’s no better vacation destination than the home of the PGA itself, located in Palm Beach.
The PGA National Resort & Spa is so much more than just a typical resort with a golf course. This is a full-service, luxury resort, with 379 guestrooms and suites. It is surrounded by five tournament-ready championship golf courses. So, you can look out any window and see breathtaking views of immaculate landscaping along the various courses from just a few yards away.
While golfers come here to perfect their game at the famous Golf Academy, or to play a few rounds on one or more of the PGA’s home courses (designed by Nicklaus, Palmer, Fazios and Karl Litten), this resort offers so much more than some of the very best golfing experiences to be had on the East Coast.

PGA National Resort & Spa is home to the annual PGA Honda Classic through 2012, and has hosted a wide range of other PGA events, including the PGA Seniors Championship (1982 – 2000), the 1987 PGA Championship, the 1983 Ryder Cup and countless other tournaments during which golf history has been made.
Aside from offering a truly unique golfing experience, there’s the 40,000-square-foot, European Day Spa. It offers a menu of more than 100 massages, facials and full body treatments in a posh setting, plus a full-service hair, nail and beauty salon. One unique feature of the spa is the collection of healing mineral pools, featuring imported salts and minerals from around the world.
The resort also offers a very nicely equipped health and racquet club with 19 tennis courts and a fully-equipped workout facility, plus an ongoing selection of classes and one-on-one training opportunities with highly experienced personal trainers.
After your golf or tennis game, for example, you can take a dip in one of the resort’s nine swimming pools or whirlpools. PGA National Resort & Spa not only offers incredible facilities, it also provides the top-notch classes and instruction to help you improve your game or overall fitness level.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can choose from seven on-site restaurants, which serve everything from ultra-healthy café-style cuisine to delicious fine-dining options. For example, at the Ironwood Grille, you can enjoy an elegant steak or seafood dinner, accompanied by fine wine. You can also enjoy drinks and socialize at the popular iBar.
While PGA Resort & Spa is the perfect vacation destination for golfers (and their families), the resort also hosts weddings, special events and has 39,000-square-feet of state-of-the-art convention and function space in a self-contained wing. During the summer and school vacation periods, supervised, camp-like activities are offered for kids, as is specialized golf instruction.
Whether you visit for a few days or a full week, the accommodations offered are spacious, extremely comfortable and posh. Throughout the year, the resort offers various money-saving packages that include one or two rounds of golf per person, breakfast and deluxe accommodations in a room with either a private balcony or terrace.
Packages range from $122.00 to $369.00 per night, per person (based on double occupancy), depending on the time of year. A minimum of a two-night stay is required. Between May 22nd and September 24th, you’ll find the lowest rates being offered. January 1st through mid-April is the resort’s peak season.
Other packages include unlimited golf, special golf clinics with PGA certified instructors, complementary access to the spa facilities, and complementary cocktails at iBar.

The resort is located just minutes from the Palm Beach International Airport, but is easily accessible from Miami International Airport and Ft. Lauderdale International Airport. Located within a few miles of the PGA National Resort are plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities. Plus, West Palm Beach, where you’ll find entertainment, cultural events, upscale shopping and even more fine-dining options, is just a few minutes away by car.
