Airfare Specials’ Impact on the Environment

Submitted by LowFares on February 14, 2011 No Comment

Airlines are offering not only airfare specials, but also free Internet on some of their flights and bonus miles for frequent flyers to boost air traffic and encourage travel during slower travel seasons. However, airlines face an even bigger issue than just filling empty plane seats: carbon footprint reduction.

Although ACARE (Advisory Council for Aeronautical Research in Europe), has been imposing a 50 percent reduction of carbon emission requirement for all planes that will be built from 2020 on, the forecast for passenger travel is on the increase, and predictions are that it will double by 2020. As a result, airlines are looking for ways to cut down on carbon emissions as well as keep passengers flying.

For now though, if you are looking for a cheap flight fares to your next destination, consider flying during the week or on an early morning outgoing flight, especially if you are a morning person. Major air carriers and discount airlines often post airfare specials on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, since people tend to like to fly during the weekends. Another way to save: look for flights late at night because red-eye flights tend to be cheaper. Whenever possible, book flights as early as possible before your departure to save on increased costs.
