New Vacation Deals at Spirit Airlines
Last week, Spirit Airlines announced they will be offering new vacation packages, combining hotel, airfare, and other travel amenities in prepackaged deals. The news was announced at a New York investor’s conference from Spirit’s chief marketing officer, Barry Biffle. To launch their new packages, Spirit offered free hotel rooms with purchased airfare.
Compared to their previous business model of only selling airfare for their airline, Spirit is hoping these travel packages will bring in more money for the company, which like many airlines has seen a hit in revenue in the past year. Some of the companies Spirit has teamed up with include Hertz car rentals and Royal Caribbean cruises. Other options for travel packages include event tickets, cruises, golf tee times, and tour tickets.
Spirit Airlines operates by selling extremely cheap airfares and charging many extra fees. According to the Spirit Airlines’ website, “this innovative approach grows the traveling market and stimulates new economic activity while creating new jobs.” Due to restructured flight plans and modern plane technology, the company calls themselves the most environmentally friendly U.S. airline.
According to MSNBC, Spirit Airlines gets a majority of their revenue from charging more for airline amenities, including fees for checked-in baggage, carryon luggage that needs to go in overhead bins, and assigned seating. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida based airlines also charges for bottled water and snacks on their flights. Spirit currently flies to many destinations in the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Nice stuff! It’s about time some airlines put together some more perks!
