Romantic Getaways

Submitted by zackbeseda on February 14, 2013 15 Comments

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and there’s nothing more romantic than a weekend getaway for two.  It’s a time to spend with someone special in a locale that combines a relaxing, exciting and adventurous vacation.  It can seem like a daunting task to pick a romantic destination fit for a special occasion but don’t worry!  Here are a couple suggestions that are sure to deliver a memory-filled weekend that you won’t want to end.

Palm Springs, CA

A romantic weekend doesn’t necessarily have to include a tropical beach.  Palm Springs is great for a quick getaway on the West coast and is just a short drive from Los Angeles.  With gorgeous weather and stunning scenery, this laid back town is the perfect retreat for couples looking to get away for awhile.   If you just want to relax and observe, then take the 15 minute tram ride to the top of the San Jacinto Mountains.  Upon reaching the top, you can enjoy a quiet lunch or dinner at Peaks Restaurant then take a stroll around the summit before heading back down.  Of course, no romantic weekend to Palm Springs would be complete without a day at the spa.  There are also several resort hotels that offer couples massages in the comfort of your room.  But no matter where you stay, Palm Springs is a sure bet for a getaway to remember.

The Caribbean

If you’re looking for something a little more on the tropical side, the Caribbean is synonymous with romance.  St. Lucia is a popular option for romantic travel, with warm waters for swimming and trails for hiking or mountain biking as well as plenty of island cuisine, bars and spots to just lay out and get some sun.  For the active couples out there, you can hop on zip lines ranging from 80 to 400 feet in length and take you soaring over the rainforest with spectacular views.  Jamaica and the Dominican Republic are also luxurious destinations in the Caribbean perfect for couples.  No matter where you choose to go, this tropical paradise is full of activities, delicious food and limitless windswept beaches.

Paris, France

When it comes to romantic getaways, nothing beats a kiss at the top of the Eiffel Tower.  But, what would you actually do if you did have the opportunity to whisk your significant other away for a weekend in Paris?  Aside from delicious cuisine, historical monuments and scenic vistas, you could plan on catching a show at the Moulin Rouge or perhaps a cruise along the Seine.  Afterwards, slip into Champagne at Flute, a tiny bar tucked into a side-street off rue de l’Etoile with a speakeasy atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks and live music every Wednesday.  And then of course, end the special night with a kiss on the Eiffel Tower!
