New Orleans, Louisiana has a reputation for being a little wild and a whole lot of fun.  It’s got dynamite food, iconic music and culture to spare even when it’s not Mardi Gras season.  But a  bombastic nightlife combined with the laidback atmosphere of the riverfront give this vacation destination a wonderful balance of excitement and relaxation that’s hard to find elsewhere.  While it’s easy to find a party in New Orleans pretty much any time of year, don’t let that fool you.  There are plenty of ways to take it easy and relax with Bourbon Street and the French Quarter just around the corner.

Whether you’re vacationing with family or you just want to have a mellow New Orleans vacation, the options for some laid back activities are many.  One way to spend a lazy afternoon is exploring the many museums in the area.  New Orleans is compromised of several different cultures including French, Caribbean and Italian and there are museums celebrating each.  Take a tour of the American Italian Cultural Center, The Backstreet Cultural Museum and the New Orleans African American Museum for a detailed look at the history of this fascinating city.  Or, spend the day at the Audubon Zoo checking out the 58 acres of animals in natural habitats.

If you’re looking to make a romantic weekend out of your New Orleans getaway, that’s easy too!  An evening spent at Woldenberg Park is not only romantic but totally free.  You can relax and watch the sun set along the beautiful Mississippi River then head over to the French Quarter for dinner.  There are plenty of delicious restaurants to choose from here including Napoleon House and Bayona.  Try to plan ahead though as it’s always helpful to make a reservation in this busy area.  And for the perfect ending to a romantic evening, rent a horse-drawn carriage so you and your significant other can ride around the French Quarter in comfort and style.

And what about a New Orleans vacation on a budget?  You certainly don’t have to empty your wallet to have an outstanding New Orleans experience.  The French Quarter might seem like an expensive area but its visual appeal is one of it’s greatest qualities.  Grab a pastry and just enjoy the old architecture of buildings like the Old Ursuline Convent, the oldest in the Mississippi River Valley.  Then, head down to Royal Steet and explore the art galleries for free. On foot is one of the best ways to explore all of New Orleans and you’ll be surprised at what you’ll find along the way.
