Albuquerque is a great city for eating out.  This is not only because it is one of the best places to try authentic Southwestern cuisine, but also because restaurants are cheaper here than in other major metropolitan areas.  There are numerous eateries where a quality meal will set you back no more than $10 to $15.

And the dining scene is not only about Southwestern cuisine.  Other cooking styles are also well represented.

Here are the best eats in the Albuquerque area.

Budget

Little Anita's is a local chain restaurant that serves great New Mexican fare in a decent atmosphere.  The best thing about these places is the value.  Good, filling meals cost no more than $7.

There are some good home-cooked dishes served from the kitchen of Papa Felipe's Mexican Restaurant (9800 Menaul Blvd NE).  It has been around for nearly 30 years, and has built a reputation amongst locals.

College students from the University of New Mexico frequent Frontier Restaurant (2400 Central Ave SE).  They are open 20 hours per day and offer great value (with nothing over $10 on the menu).  This is a good morning spot known for its thick breakfast burritos.

Saggio's Pizza (107 Cornell Dr SE) is the most popular pizza place in Albuquerque.  It slices a decent pizza, to be sure, but the atmosphere and staff make this place stand out.  There is a sports bar inside the restaurant as well, but the overall tone remains very family-friendly.

Value

Sadie's (6230 4th St NW) offers some of the most popular chili in town.  It serves authentic New Mexican chili, meaning there is no skimping on the spice.  But if you can handle the heat, Sadie’s is a must.

Route 66 Malt Shop (1720 Central SW) has good hamburgers and, yes, malts.  Despite the fact that the malt shop theme is front-and-center, the food is actually quite good, with a hearty, home-cooked feel.

Thai Tip (1512 Wyoming NE) is probably the best of several good Thai places in Albuquerque.  The tables are crowded with locals most nights and there are plenty of dishes to choose from.

Splurge

The Rancher's Club (Albuquerque Hilton, 1901 University Blvd NE) is probably the finest dining experience in the city.  American cuisine dominates the menu, with specialties like meat grilled over aromatic wood fires the most impressive offerings.

Eurasia Bistro (10701 Montgomery NE) is a fusion Japanese-European restaurant that is probably the most interesting and unique eatery in Albuquerque.  Sushi and barbecued meats are the mainstays.  Portions are larger than you might expect.
