Atlanta Attractions
Atlanta has been a major city in the southern US for nearly two hundred years, so it has developed a rich history and culture. At the same time, the city is considered the capitol of the New South. There are many modern attractions, which point to Atlanta’s recent cultural and economic renaissance. This mix of old and new is part of what makes the city such an attractive place to visit.

Centennial Park is one of the largest parks in Atlanta. Many events took place here during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. The park features fountains and open spaces as well as views of some of the most famous buildings in Atlanta, including the CNN Center and the Georgia Dome. Outdoor concerts are held on park grounds throughout the year.
Value
The Atlanta History Center (Buckhead District) has a beautiful campus and some great interactive activities. These include tours of a fully restored Victorian mansion, visiting a replica 1840s farm, and viewing the world’s largest collection of Civil War artifacts and memorabilia.
The Fernbank Museum of Natural History includes several large dinosaur skeletons, a host of exhibits about the natural world and an IMAX theater. This is a good place to visit if you are traveling with a group of people who have varied interests. You will be able to take advantage of the diverse array of exhibits to please everyone.
The CNN Studio Tour allows the public to see behind the scenes of the famed Cable News Network. The tour takes visitors through the main studio, the control room and other areas. Before the 1996 Olympics, Atlanta was mostly known because it was the base for CNN.
Splurge
The Georgia Aquarium is located near Centennial Park. It is one of the largest aquariums in the world and always seems to be adding new exhibits to its repertoire. An Atlanta City Pass can get you admittance to the aquarium as well as the CNN Studio Tour, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and several other attractions around the city.
Atlanta is a sports-mad city. The NFL franchise, the Falcons, play their home games at the Georgia Dome. Perennial baseball favorite, the Atlanta Braves, play at Turner Field. The Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton hosts motor sports events almost daily, and the Atlanta Hawks (NBA) and Atlanta Thrashers (NHL) play at Phillips Arena. Tickets for some of these can be hard to come by, but the sports scene in Atlanta is one of the most exciting in the nation.
