Atlanta Restaurants
If you expect to find classic southern-style cooking in Atlanta, you will not be disappointed. Because it is the cultural capitol of the South, this is no surprise. However, Atlanta is also a major metropolis, so virtually every kind of cuisine that the world has to offer is represented somewhere in the city.
Here are the best places to eat in Atlanta.
Budget
One of the best Downtown eateries is Jalapeno Charlie's (218 Peachtree). The Latin cuisine is both tasty and reasonably priced. The décor and ambiance are what really make this place worthwhile. Mexican/Latin music is always on the sound system and authentic, original works of art adorn the walls.
Fat Matt's Rib Shack (1811 Piedmont Ave) is a favorite amongst tourists and hungry locals because of the gigantic portions it serves. Though other places do better barbecue, Fat Matt’s offers great value and a healthy dose of fun.
Value
Max Lager's American Grill and Brewery (320 Peachtree Street) is a huge restaurant with a deck, patio and cavernous indoor seating area. It is housed in a renovated turn-of-the-century warehouse. Max’s combines a fine selection of beers, a decent menu and a relaxed atmosphere to attract customers.
South City Kitchen (1144 Crescent Ave) features new twists on old southern favorites. The ambiance is good (but busy) and the quality of the cooking and concepts is second to none. With its wide range of choices and unique dishes, South City is one of the most exciting eating venues in metro Atlanta.
Splurge
Atlanta has attracted several celebrity chefs because of its status as the cultural center of the South. Tom Colicchio (the Top Chef judge) opened Craft, a hip eatery that features classic cuisine made with local ingredients. Chef Chris Yeo and hip-hop mogul Chris Bridges combined resources to open the Singaporean-themed Straits.
Bone's (3130 Piedmont Ave) is arguably the best steakhouse in the entire eastern US. It serves expertly prepared cuts and was rated as the nation’s #1 steakhouse by Zagat in 2006. You can expect to pay for the quality, but if you are in search of a high quality cut of beef, this is your place.
Pittypat’s Porch (25 Andrew Young International Blvd) gets its name from Gone with the Wind. This eatery is all about old school Southern luxury. Yes, it is kind of an upscale tourist trap, but the dishes are high quality and the ambiance is like food for your imagination.
