Many attractions date back to the 1800s when the Bahamas were owned by British colonists. Queen's Staircase
This 102 foot staircase is one of the most visited sites in the Bahamas. It was carved completely out of limestone in the 18th century to serve soldiers who wanted to travel easily between Fort Fincastle and Elizabeth Avenue. You can climb the 65-step staircase yourself and get a close look at the limestone walls and steps that still stand strong today.

Villa Doyle
This mansion was built around 1860 and was owned by Chief Justice Williams Henry Doyle. The building has been sold several times throughout history, but has now been acquired by the Bahamian government to serves as the islands' National Art Gallery. You can explore all levels of this beautiful home and see paintings, sculptures and ceramics from an era gone by.

Pompey Museum of Slavery & Emancipation
This historic museum houses dozens of paintings and photographs from the days of slavery on the islands, and also features a large craft store where you can purchase international and locally made arts and crafts.

Botanical Gardens
Escape to this corner of paradise where you can see over 600 species of flowers, plants and trees and dozens of exotic flora. The gardens are protected by the Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Resources, and cover 18 acres of island territory.

Parliament Square
The bright, flamingo-pink buildings around Parliament Square are actually government buildings that are some great examples of the historic colonial architecture style. You can take a walking tour of the square to see these buildings and other sites up close.
