Bangkok is a busy city that's home to hundreds of cultural sites, unique attractions and a wealth of authentic restaurants.  The cosmopolitan city is also home to dozens of nightclubs, pubs and bars that cater to both local and international guests.  However, it's easy to miss out on some key attractions and get lost in the congested city.  Here are some travel tips to make sure you make the most out of your visit to Bangkok, Thailand:

1.  Take the Skytrain to see multiple city sights in one day.  The Skytrain runs throughout the commercial core of Bangkok and into the countryside, giving you a bird's eye view of many attractions.  Grab a map and make a note of all of the sites on your route to see many famous places on one trip.

2. Learn how to read road signs.  Addresses in Bangyama are often abbreviated with 'Th' but side streets are called 'soi'.  The numbers don't usually go up evenly on both sides of the street, so navigating on foot may be a little confusing at first. Locals don't use compass directions, so you're better off learning where landmarks and key sites are located when you need to be pointed in the right direction.

3. Don't ride a taxi without a meter.  Many 'ghost taxis' target tourists by offering a flat fee for each ride.  Unfortunately, you won't know what this fee is until you arrive at your destination.  Always ask them if they have a meter before jumping into the cab, and try and pick up a taxi from an official 'Taxi Stand' whenever possible.

4. Take the Bangkok Metro when visiting cultural sites.  The Thailand Cultural Centre Station is one of the central locations to get a ride on the Metro bus system, and stops are scattered near many of the key sights.  Riding the metro can save you a lot of money over cabs or the Skytrain in some cases, and you can purchase a pre-paid card to make things easier.

5.  Make sure you visit Rattanakosin Island.  It's considered to be Bangkok's "Old City" and is home to many famous temples, markets and royal palaces.  Head here to see the famous Temple of Dawn, the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, the home of the largest reclining Buddha in the world.
