Bern, Switzerland is home to many lush forests, winding rivers and a bustling town center.  It's a city that embodies Old Europe's culture and traditions, but it also caters to those who want to enjoy the nightlife scene during their visit.  You'll find a number of small, quaint wine bars throughout the city, along with a handful of pubs and taverns.  What you won't find is a high-energy dance club atmosphere; Bern is still fairly conservative and firmly rooted in its Old Europe ways.  Here's where you'll find the best bars and taverns in the city:

Klotzlikeller
A local favorite that's been in business since 1635, this is the place to enjoy a night of wine tasting, freshly prepared beer and some tasty appetizers.  The tavern is a short walk from the Clock Tower, and has become a popular gathering spot.  You'll find it at Gerechtigkeitsgasse 52 in Bern.

Marian's Jazz Room
This exclusive jazz club is the place to get dressed up and prepare for a fun night on the town.  The club features local, regional and international acts throughout the week, and its tucked inside the Innere Enge hotel.  Head here for soothing jazz after a busy day of sightseeing and shopping; it's located at Engerstrasse 54.

Mocambo
Home to one of the few dance floors in the city, this club features a revolving stage and three large bars.  Head here for creative cocktails and live music on weekends.  It's located at Aarbegergasse 61 in Bern.

Belle Epoque
For a relaxing evening with friends, or just to unwind after a busy day, head to this wine bar inside the Belle Epoque Hotel for international wines and a wide selection of cocktails.  The intimate bar is decorated in an art nouveau style, so take your time to walk through and admire the architecture, décor and artwork collections.  It's located at Gerechtigkeitsgasse 18 in Bern.

Arlequin Bar
This wine bar is tucked inside the Arlequin restaurant on Gerechtigkeitsgasse 51 in Bern.  Head here to mingle with the locals and enjoy a menu of appetizers with your favorite cocktail. The venue typically plays light jazz and blues throughout the week.
