Colorado Springs boasts a unique culinary scene. While the list of cuisines that can be found in the city is not as extensive as it is in larger cities, there are still plenty of options in Colorado Springs. Some of the best restaurants in town are equal to those in Denver (or anywhere in the Mountain West, for that matter) in terms of quality, creativity and over personality. For a city of its size, Colorado Springs has an excellent eating scene. Here are the highlights:
Budget
Wooglin's Deli (823 N Tejon St.) is a laid-back, family-run deli that serves everything from beer and wine to gourmet coffee and espresso drinks. The unique recipes have a home-made feel. This place is quite popular with Colorado College students and local professionals because the menu gives you great value for your dollar.
Stagecoach Inn (702 Manitou Ave) manages to be both upscale and down-home. The food is well prepared, and the atmosphere is excellent. There is a deck overlooking the mountains that is open, weather permitting, during the summer months.
Value
The Nook (Dublin Blvd) is a family-run restaurant that serves plenty of specialties and has an impressive lunch menu on weekend afternoons. This is one of the many places in Colorado Springs where part of the dining experience includes socializing with the friendly owner and staff.
The Mason Jar (2925 W Colorado Ave) is a welcoming restaurant (fire-place, plenty of family-sized tables) that specializes in home-cooked Southern cuisine. Fried chicken and hearty soups are amongst the offerings. The drinks are served in Mason Jars to complete the Deep South experience.
Edelweiss Restaurant (34 E Ramona Ave) has been serving classic German fare to Colorado Springs residents for almost three decades. The owners have done their best to bring Bavarian atmosphere to the Mountain West. The mountain setting helps, as does the decent menu and the strolling accordion players who serenade diners on the weekends.
Splurge
Fujiyama (28 S Tejon St Ste A) is an upscale restaurant from its top to its bottom. The food could best be described as quality Japanese fare, but the atmosphere, enhanced by the dark wood interior and stone-tiled floors, makes this the perfect place for everything from a romantic night on the town to a business lunch with a new client.
Bistro de Pinto (26 E Kiowa St,) is an Italian-flavored eatery that specializes in dishes that use healthy, local ingredients. The food has a gourmet flare, but is reasonably priced considering its quality.
