Detroit Historical Museum – head here if you’re on a budget and looking for a relaxing way to spend the day. The venue is home to over 200,000 artifacts and is one of America’s oldest and largest museums dedicated to the history of the metropolitan area. You’ll find over 80,000 square feet of exhibition space and guided tours are available throughout the day.

Motown Historical Museum - learn all about your favorite Motown stars at this historical museum that pays a tribute to The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and other notable musicians. This is an inexpensive activity that’s perfect for all ages, and you can take a guided tour for an in-depth exploration of Motown history.

Detroit Science Center - spend the day at the city’s famous Science Center to watch a movie in the Chrysler IMAX Dome Theater, or explore dozens of interactive, hands-on exhibits throughout the center. The venue is open year round, and there’s also a dedicated space for children to learn about science and technology.

Museum of African American History - take in one of the country’s largest collections of African American artwork, artifacts, photographs and memorabilia in the beautiful building of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The dome complex offers tours and unique programs throughout the year, and several permanent exhibitions that will give you an overview of African American history and culture.

Maybury Living Farm – if you’re looking for a free family-friendly activity to enjoy, head out to Maybury State Park to see the seed displays, crops and petting zoo on a working farm. The venue offers events for all ages throughout the year, and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Head here in the summer to see all the plants, trees and crops in full bloom, or explore the farm in winter for scenic views of the fields.
