Karpeles Manuscript Library - one of the country’s largest collections of old manuscripts, this privately owned library features hundreds of treasures including the original draft of the Bill of Rights, Einstein’s description of the ‘Theory of Relativity’ and the Thanksgiving Proclamation. You can take a tour of this historic museum to learn about the museum founders and the impact of the museum on the arts and cultural district of Jacksonville.
Museum of Science and History - don’t miss out on the fun evetns, camps and classes hosted at this museum that gives you a chance to explore Florida’s history, learn about different species of Northeast Florida animals, enjoy the Science Theater and Aqua Expo exhibits, and learn about life in the coral reef. The venue is a great place for children and adults of all ages; tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for children ages 3-12 and $7.50 for seniors.
Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens - explore the lush landscapes of the gardens at one of Florida’s most beautiful museums. You’ll see over 6,000 objects in the permanent collection that includes the world-renowned 18th century Meissen porcelain, and can take part in the hands-on art experience in the education center. The museum is considered to be one of the finest in fine arts museums in Northeast Florida; guided tours are available with reservations, and the museum and gardens are free on Tuesday evenings. Standard admission is $10 for adults, $6 for students and free of charge for children 5 years or younger.
Florida Theater - take in the latest musical concert or theatrical performance in the historic theatre that is always buzzing with activity. The theatre originally opened ot the public in 1927, and has maintained much of its lavish décor and architecture inspired by the Mediterranean Revival era. You can take a tour of the grounds or settle in for a live performance any time of year; ticket prices vary depending on the show and seating.
The Ritz Theatre & LaVilla Museum - Learn about the history of African Americans in northeast Florida at the LaVilla Museum; you’ll find a varied collection of folk art, local crafts and sculptures, and history exhibitions. Explore the famous Ritz Theatre next door to enjoy live musical concerts, storytelling events and other performances throughout the year; the 400-seat theatre features a state-of-the-art sound system, large performance stage and theatrical lighting.
