Las Vegas Attractions
Las Vegas is known colloquially as Sin City. While this might not accurately portray the city as a whole, for many tourists, the casinos, shows and anything-goes atmosphere are the main attractions.
That said, they are not the only attractions. Here is the best of all that Vegas has to offer.
Budget
Cirque du Soleil is well known amongst Vegas production companies, but their shows are expensive and often hard to get into. If you are on a budget or have been unlucky at the craps table, try Masquerade Show in the Sky (Rio). This free show features floats and dancers a la Brazilian Carnival.
Sirens of T.I. is an adult oriented (though not x-rated) pirate show that takes place at Treasure Island Casino. For the kids: I Lost My M in Vegas is a 3-D movie shown at M&M World, next to the MGM casino.
Outside Las Vegas are some pristine pieces of wilderness. Red Rock Canyon is a good place to try your hand at rock climbing. There are fixed routes on the canyon that are suitable for people of every skill level. The nearby Spring Mountains offer arid mountain landscapes that are perfect for trekking and hiking.
Value
Gamble. Many people picture the Rio and Bellagio as gambling venues filled with high-rollers. But in reality, most of the games in these casinos are aimed at players with a limited bankroll. No matter what game you choose, there will be a limit to suit what you have in your pocket.
Casino buffets. These eateries generally run about $30 for dinner, but are less than half that at lunch and breakfast time; even though the spreads are just as impressive during these earlier meals.
Splurge
Cirque du Soleil is the hottest ticket in town. Major hotel/casinos host shows (Bellagio, Rio, and MGM). Other shows like Penn and Teller, Blue Man Group, and a host of more adult-oriented performances also fit on the must-see list. Tickets are not cheap and are often sold out by the day of the show, so you have to book in advance.
The gondola ride at the Venetian is a nice break from the usual chaos of a casino. It’s a whopping $15 for a mere 4 minutes, but one of the better examples of the Vegas experience.
Some of the best restaurants in the country are located in Vegas. ENVY, Craftstreak, and Tao are all top notch (and high-priced) eateries. The menus have been created by well-known chefs.
