Things to Do in Las Vegas
If you created a complete list of things to do in Las Vegas, it would be the size of a large city’s phone book. Most of the action is focused on the casinos and live shows, but those aren’t the only attractions in town. Nightlife and eateries also vie for visitors’ attention, as does the ruggedly beautiful landscape outside the city limits.
Here are the best bets for things to do in Vegas.
Budget
Watch the fountains at the Bellagio. These water shows run every 15 minutes in the evening. They are set to music and many people find them quite spectacular. Also, inside the Bellagio are live flower gardens. These are free attractions (unless you get drawn into a game of blackjack. Other casinos have similar sights. The Mirage has an erupting volcano while the MGM Grand has a lion habitat. These spectacles are meant to seduce people into the casinos, but anyone can take advantage.
Value
You can usually expect a trip to the casino to cost you, unless you are lucky. However, gambling is not the most expensive way to spend you time in Vegas. There are plenty of tables for high rollers, but a majority of machines and table games are aimed at those who don’t want to drop big bucks.
Each casino/hotel has its own shows. Some of the best include the Blue Man Group at the Venetian, Matsuri at the Riviera and Stomp Out Loud at Planet Hollywood. Current musical headliners include Prince, who frequently plays at 3121 at the Rio Hotel and Toni Braxton, who graces the stage at The Flamingo.
Splurge
Cirque du Soleil is the hottest ticket in town. There are currently 5 ongoing shows with more in the works. These shows include performers doing amazing physical feats, atmospheric music, and compelling stories. It is virtually guaranteed that someone at home will ask you if you saw a Cirque du Soleil performance during your Vegas vacation. You’ll have to reserve tickets well in advance to assure yourself a seat.
Try one of the country’s best restaurants. Top chefs are lured to Vegas by big money. Right now, two of the hottest eating spots are Tao and Craftsteak. Expect the bill to top $100 per person, but the experience to be one of the best you’ve ever had at a restaurant.
Each casino/hotel complex has a fine collection of bars, lounges and nightclubs. Vegas is at its best when the sun goes own, so be sure not to call it an early night.
