Louisville Restaurants
Louisville is known in the Ohio River Valley for its down-home cooking. However, it is a large enough city that there is also a nice variety of cuisines, from ethnic to cutting edge to soul food. You simply have to choose where to fill your belly and what price range you are looking for. Favorites include Hot Brown, a turkey sandwich topped with special sauce, and of course, fried chicken (there is a museum dedicated to Colonel Sanders in Louisville).
Here are a handful of Louisville’s best eateries
Budget
One of the best budget eateries in town is J. Gumbo's (2109 Frankfort Ave). As the name might suggest, Cajun food is featured here. The dishes are mostly authentic (a reminder that Louisville is more Dixie than Midwestern) and the prices can’t be beat. You can eat and drink well for under $10 per person.
WW Cousins is a local favorite for the budget minded. It is a “make your own burger” place featuring beef patties, but also a salad bar. There are some chains with a similar “make your own” idea but WW Cousins has a family owned vibe that makes it more attractive than the chains.
There are also plenty of other chain restaurants of the bar-and-grill-type (like Applebee’s) scattered throughout Louisville.
Value
Cafe 360 (Bardstown Road) is a cool hangout spot as much as a good restaurant. Food is served 24-hours per day and there are cool extras like hookahs and a youthful crowd. This is a popular spot for late-night eats.
Kashmir Indian Restaurant (1285 Bardstown Rd) serves good, hearty Indian fare without any pretense. It is one of the more popular ethnic eateries in town.
The Granville (1601 S 3rd St) is a Louisville institution. It features some of the best burgers and sandwiches in this burger-happy city. Though it is not exactly as cheap as some of the other joints in town, it makes up for it with the superior quality of its dishes and the unparalleled atmosphere.
If you are looking for some good home-cooking, Lynn's Paradise Café (984 Barret Ave) is another local favorite.
Splurge
Louisville has an impressive array of fine-dining establishments. Le Relais (2817 Taylorville Rd) does a good job with upscale French cuisine. It is not necessarily haute cuisine, but a solid fine dining experience nonetheless.
Avalon (1314 Bardstown Rd) is one of the finest of the fine dining restaurants in town. It has a great menu, an extensive wine list and top-notch service.
