Miami is a culinary melting-pot. Its cosmopolitan personality and big-city vibe assure that every type of cooking style is well represented. Little Havana's authentic Cuban eateries are much talked about, but other Caribbean flavors, as well as some of the freshest seafood in the world, are also part of the line-up.
Here is where you can find the finest eats and best flavors that Miami has to offer.
Budget
David's Café (1058 Collins Ave) is a famous 24-hour eatery serving tasty Cuban food at ridiculously cheap prices (considering the quality). David's has become somewhat of an institution and has plenty of local regulars. They deliver for free in the South Beach area. The restaurant's success has led to the opening of a second location (at 1654 Meridian Ave).
News Café (800 Ocean Drive) is another twenty-four hour joint. This one has an eclectic menu with Mediterranean, Italian and Middle Eastern fare, as well as breakfast items, sandwiches and pizza. This place is located in a busy part of the city, so the people watching is as good a reason to visit as the food.
Value
La Carreta (SW 8th St and at Miami Int'l Airport) is a local chain of Cuban eateries that are open twenty-four hours per day. La Carreta is well known for their quality food and authentic feel. It is so authentic, in fact, that you will sometimes not be able to communicate with the staff if you don't know at least a little Spanish.
Mango's Tropical Café (900 Ocean Drive) is a South Beach eatery that is heavy on gimmickry, but also serves some decent food. The Caribbean/American menu offers fresh flavors and old favorites. The real attraction here is the staff. Bartenders sometimes jump onto the bar and start dancing while the band performs rock tunes. This is definitely an "only in South Beach" kind of eatery.
Splurge
China Grill (404 Washington Ave) is a classy Chinese restaurant. Expertly prepared classic Chinese dishes are served in a sparkling atmosphere. This is almost exclusively a group dining venue. Large dishes are placed at the center of the table and are eaten "family-style."
Blue Door Restaurant (1685 Collins Ave) is an interesting fusion restaurant that mixes Brazilian and French cooking styles. This particular combination seems to work because the restaurant is packed for brunch and dinner. The kitchen also serves a complete breakfast menu each morning. In the evenings, you won't get through the door without a reservation.
