Nashville Nightlife
Nashville’s nightlife scene revolves around live music. However, there are also plenty of laid-back hang-out spots, sleek clubs and classy lounges. This is a growing city with an ever increasing number of after-dark activities. The food scene is equally diverse and offers everything from fine dining to tasty family-owned hole-in-the-wall restaurants.
Here is a sampling of Nashville’s nightlife options.
Budget
The Beer Cellar (107 Church Street) is a lively pub with a great selection of beers. Occasionally, they have specials such as “all you can drink” nights for $20. There is enough going on here that you can actually spend the entire evening swilling and socializing and get more than your money’s worth.
The 5 Points area of East Nashville includes a series of good, down-home bars with names like Red Door Saloon, Beyond the Edge, The Alley Cat, and The 5 Spot. All these places offer good, reasonably priced food, a large selection of drinks and occasional live music sets. 5 Points is the number one neighborhood for bar crawling in Nashville.
Value
Bluebird Café (4104 Hillsboro Pike) is a good option compared to some of the more expensive live music venues in town. They host up-and-coming songwriters who want to showcase their talent before industry insiders. It is not a rowdy roadhouse but offers a chance to hear some quality tunes and catch upcoming acts before they hit the big time.
Mercy Lounge (1 Cannery Row # 100) is a new hangout spot in Nashville. It features a glut of activities, such as pool and darts, but also books regional and national indie rock acts. If you want to get on stage yourself, they frequently have Karaoke nights.
Splurge
Nashville Symphony is one of the finest groups of classical musicians in any mid-sized city in the US. Concerts are held at the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center (1 Symphony Place). The orchestra plays a variety of music throughout the year. There are occasional “free music days,” the most notable one being in early October.
The Tennessee Center for the Performing Arts hosts other fine art performances such as the Nashville Ballet and dramatic theater by the Tennessee Repertory Theater Company.
Bar 23 is one of the hippest places in town. If you want a taste of Nashville’s “see-and-be-seen scene,” this is your place. Meanwhile, the multi-storey Graham Central Station (128 2nd Avenue North) is one of the premiere dance clubs. There is a little something for everyone here.
