San Francisco Museum of Art - make your way to Third Street between Mission and Howard or the beautiful complex of the San Francisco Museum of Art. The venue is home to dozens of contemporary exhibits and collections form noteworthy artists the world over; the museum offers tours each day, and also hosts a number of special events and activities for visitors of all ages.
Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf - this historic San Francisco landmark became famous as an entertainment complex on Fisherman’s Wharf but has since become a giant 100,000 square foot collection of handcrafted wax figures and special exhibits. You’ll find the Hall of Religions, the Chamber of Horrors, King Tut and the Palace of Living Art at this attraction that will keep you busy all day. The museum is open every day, and tickets cost $12.95 for adult and $6.95 - $9.95 for children; specialty tours of the city and cruises are also available.
Asian Art Museum - it’s one of the largest museums in the country devoted entirely to Asian Art, and you’ll find hundreds of artifacts, paintings, antiques and costumes at this one-of-a-kind venue. The museum provides a sampling of several countries in the Far East, giving you a glimpse of cultural traditions and religions from centuries gone by. The venue offers free admission on the first Sunday of every month, but regular admission is $12 for adults and $7 for youth and college students between the ages of 13 and 17; children under the age of 12 can enjoy the museum for free.
The Castro Theater - it’s been named the Best Indie Theater in the Bay Area, and continues to attract hundreds of locals and visitors each week. The theatre features several black and white classics and the latest lineup of indie movies, but you can also take a tour of the facility to learn more about this historic theatre located right on Castro Street.
Ferry Building Marketplace - head to the famous Ferry Plaza Farmers Market or take in the beautiful views from the top of the Ferry Building to enjoy the Bay Area from a fresh perspective. The Ferry Building Marketplace opened 1898 and once served a primary transportation focal point for trains arriving from the East; today, the venue features dozens of shops, restaurants and food cart vendors that exemplify local San Francisco culture. Take an historic trolley car in front of the Ferry Building to start your journey.
