Things to Do in Seattle
Home to the famous Space Needle and Pike Place Market, Seattle is a city buzzing with excitement year round. Local attractions and activities will give you a chance to learn about the history and culture of this cosmopolitan city, and experience dozens of unique events and sites. Whether you’re on a tight budget or looking for the VIP treatment, here’s where to set your sights on your trip to Washington State:
Visit the Woodland Park Zoo: Kids of all ages will enjoy a private tour of this 65-acre zoo that’s home to over 1,000 animals. The zoo attracts just over a million visitors each year, and features both indoor and outdoor exhibits along with hands-on interactive stations and special events. Plan to spend the day here to cover the entire site; tickets are just $8 - $16.50 depending on the season and age of the visitor, making this a value-priced attraction for any budget-conscious traveler.
Explore the Chittenden Locks & Carl English Botanical Gardens: Take a guided tour of the ancient locks to learn how ships and vessels once made their way across the docks to the famous port in Seattle. The venue is also home to seven acres of botanical gardens, giving you a chance to learn about over 2,000 varieties of exotic and native plants.
Go on a cruise: If money is no object, head to the Seattle waterfront to jump aboard a cruise ship. Five major cruise lines offer weekly service out of Seattle, making their way to Alaska and other venues around the country. Port Seattle is also a great place to relax and settle in for lunch or dinner at an upscale restaurant or café.
Ride the Monorail: It’s the country’s first full-scale commercial monorail that takes passengers across several unique sites and attractions in downtown Seattle and the surrounding area. You’ll be riding along at 45 miles per hour as you ride on through Belltown, the Experience Music Project and dozens of waterfront attractions. Round-trip fares are just $4 for adults and $1.50 for youth, and the train departs every 10 minutes from the station across the street from the Space Needle.
Take a Boat Tour Across Deception Pass: Head out to the turbulent waters of Deception Pass on board the famous ‘Island Whaler’ a boat that carries passengers across the waters from Oak Harbor. The tour will give you a chance to learn about the National Historic Monument and offers scenic views of the waterfront.
