Things to Do in Tucson - Search for Cheap Airline Tickets to Tucson
Tucson is filled with attractions for travelers. Depending on your interest, there are different parts of the city that you might consider “can’t-miss”. However, Tucson is small enough that your trip doesn’t have to be focused on one element of the city. You can sample a bit of everything: the outdoors, the arts, the food, the museums and nightlife. Here are some activities that will assure that you get a taste of all the Tucson has to offer.
Budget
Tucson Botanical Gardens (2150 North Alvernon Way) are right in the middle of the city, but once you step inside, you’ll feel like you are in the wilderness. Some of the original adobe buildings from the 1920 construction date are still standing. These are as interesting as the large collection of plant life from the world’s most arid regions.
There are plenty of museums and exhibit halls in Tucson. Unique venues of this nature include the Pima Air & Space Museum (6000 E. Valencia Rd), which has a collection of over 200 aircraft, and the Center for Creative Photography at the U of A, which shows both classic and contemporary photography from the region.
Value
Sabino Canyon is on the outskirts of the city. It’s no Grand Canyon, but is still a major natural spectacle that is made even more attractive because it is so easy to reach. If you want to get into the desert, but don’t want to take a major trek, this is the place to go. A tram runs up and down the lower reaches of the canyon. The views are good and you can get a taste of the rugged beauty of the Sonoran Desert without breaking a sweat.
Do a bar crawl on 4th Avenue. This is a great place to see an entire cross-section of Tucson’s nightlife. Offbeat nightspots like The Surly Wench and mainstream pub-‘n-grub spots like O’Malley’s and North on 4th are within stumbling distance of one another.
Splurge
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (2021 N. Kinney Rd) is a living museum with zoo-like features as well as informative exhibits that offer insight into the natural side of the Tucson area. This is an extremely family-friendly place because there are activities for all ages.
There are plenty of retail spots around town where visitors can buy art, hand-made accessories, and crafts. One of the more popular venues for these types of products is Silver Sea (330 N. 4th Ave). If you come during the winter, the Tucson Gem Show will be in full swing. Collectors of precious metals display and sell their wares to other collectors and the general public.
