Tulsa's geography defies the flat/boring stereotype that every city in Oklahoma has been saddled with. The lush grasslands and rolling hills are a surprise to people expecting to see tumbleweeds and dust devils. Likewise, the food scene in Tulsa holds a bit of the unexpected. Despite its down-home vibe, Tulsa is home to a cosmopolitan eating scene. Aside from the expected menu of barbecue joints, steakhouses, and diners, there is a sprinkling of sushi bars, seafood restaurants, ethnic eateries and pizza parlors. Big city visitors might find Tulsa lacking in some areas, but food is not one of them.

Desi Wok (3966 South Hudson Ave) has an interesting and unique take on fusion cuisines. The Indian/Chinese mix is not often seen in the US. In addition to an assortment of well-made and creative specialties, the restaurant also has a full menu of both Chinese and Indian classic dishes.
Pie Hole (Delaware Ave) is a pizza place serving New York style pies. The offerings go well beyond your average pepperoni and Canadian bacon. People travel from across town to get their hands on one of the Pie Hole's numerous specialty pizzas.
Value
Zio's is a local chain of pizza and pasta restaurants. These family-friendly venues have decent atmosphere and good value, especially when it comes to the pasta dishes, which have a little more Old World flare than your average Italian chain eatery. Zio's is quite popular with local residents and their families.
Full Moon Café (1525 East 15th Street) serves lunch and dinner every day and throws breakfast into the mix on the weekends. There are generous salads, burgers and other bar-and-grill staples, as well as specialties like chicken margaritas and tortilla soup. On weekends, Full Moon books live music acts.
Splurge
Sushi Train (51st and Harvard) is a gimmicky sushi bar with something most gimmicky restaurants don't have: decent food. The sushi comes to patrons on dishes that are pulled by a toy train. The fish is above average, though this place doesn't have the hip sushi bar vibe that you might find in a larger city.
Atlas Grill (415 South Boston Ave) is tucked away in the lobby of one of the many art deco buildings in downtown Tulsa. It is a popular lunchtime spot among white collar office workers in the downtown area. The architecture and décor are as much of a reason to give Atlas a try as the menu of bar-and-grill standards.
