Washington, D.C. Restaurants - Search for Cheap Airline Tickets to Washington, D.C.
Washington DC has more than its share of quality eateries. There are many upscale restaurants near tourist areas or government centers. For a majority of visitors, these eateries for the well-heeled are the trademark of the city’s culinary scene. However, there are other types of restaurants in DC as well. In fact, many venues in the area offer great value. There is a high concentration of Ethiopian restaurants and soul food restaurants in certain neighborhoods of the city.
Here is a list of the best eats Washington DC has to offer.
Budget
The Shaw District is one of the best places to get a cheap, tasty meal. There are numerous Ethiopian restaurants and also the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl, one of the best soul food kitchens in the country. There are also several popular Caribbean restaurants in the area.
Hot dog stands are everywhere around the city. If you are visiting the Mall and in need of some sustenance, these convenient mobile vendors are never far away. They are scattered all around the outskirts of the Mall and many serve the unique “DC Half-Smoke” grilled sausages. If you are on a budget, there is no better option.
Just because Georgetown and Dupont Circle are where DC’s upscale restaurants are does not mean that there are no good deals in these neighborhoods. Late night pizza and chili places abound, and there are ethnic eateries offering cheap lunch and dinner service on many side streets.
Value
There are plenty of ethnic eateries apart from the Ethiopian scene. Because of the high concentration of expats and diplomats, virtually every world cuisine is represented somewhere. For a good value meal, try the neighborhood of Columbia Heights. Places like Pizza Mart and Pizza Boli sell gigantic slices of pizza late into the night.
Splurge
If you want to spend more than $100 on a meal, Washington DC is the place to be. Georgetown, Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle all have an excess of upscale eateries. Uber-hip places like Urbana and Etrusco are as much about the experience as they are about the food.
Some upscale eateries are quite unique. Al Tiramisu is probably the city’s best Italian restaurant. Nearby Russia House has good authentic fare and more than 30 top-shelf vodkas to choose from. Citronelle, in Georgetown, is a venue for world class French cuisine. This is a jacket and tie affair, but one of the finest of the fine-dining experiences in DC.
