Overview
With 446 bridges, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s second largest city, is known as “The City of Bridges.” Pittsburgh’s historically-heavy involvement in the steel industry has given it a reputation for being quite polluted as a result. Today, Pittsburgh is one of the most environmentally-conscious cities in the country, withThe Economist naming it “America’s Most Livable City” in 2009.
The Steelers (NFL) call Pittsburgh home; so does the H.J. Heinz Company, of famed Heinz ketchup. For over 33 years, PBS television legend Fred Rogers broadcasted Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood from the city.

When to Go
High Season
Many of Pittsburgh’s top attractions are indoors, so it doesn’t matter when you visit. Pittsburgh is located along three rivers which surround and intersect its buildings. While there are beautiful parks in the city, rivers provide a multitude of water-based activities, like taking a riverboat tour or renting a kayak, canoe, sailboat or jet ski.
Exploring Pittsburgh can be done on foot, bicycle or by taking a Segway In Paradise tour. Between April and October, Just Ducky Tours take guests through and around the city in amphibious trucks built during WWII for transporting goods and soldiers over land and water.
Low Season
During the winter months, when snow and ice keep all but avid skiers indoors, Pittsburgh’s museums, theatres and other attractions offer plenty to do.
