Brownsville is the southernmost city in Texas and is the major manufacturing center of the Rio Grande Valley. The city has played historic roles through out the history of the United States. During the Civil War, it served as the major port for the Confederate States of America. Today it is a fast growing manufacturing city rich with history and culture.
There are many things to do and see when you visit Brownsville. The Historic Brownsville Museum, located in the old Southern Pacific Depot originally constructed in 1928 and recently restored, is worth a visit just for the architecture (although the exhibits are interesting in their own right). The Gladys Porter Zoo houses more than 1500 animals and is a fun place for the whole family to spend the day.
The climate in Brownsville is fairly temperate, with temperatures from summer to winter varying only about 20 degrees. Summer highs will usually stay around 80F (with lows above 60F). Winter highs are usually around 60F (with the lows staying above 40F).
