As one of the most-visited cities in central Florida, Orlando is home to several tourist attractions and sites, and is most well-known for its attractions and theme parks. Home to world-famous theme parks such as Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld, the city has the second largest number of hotel rooms in the country. Several business conferences and events take place at the Orange County Convention Center and large resort properties, and Downtown Orlando is undergoing several developments to make it more attractive to residents and travelers.

Orlando has its roots in the sugar and trading industry, but soon became a hub for citrus growers who set up plantations and groves throughout the area. Many of these citrus groves still exist today, but Orlando's Golden Era ended in 1895 as the area turned into a rural backwater and then a resort town after the Spanish-American War. The Florida Land Boom that took place in the early 1920s created dozens of neighborhoods, but it wasn't until the opening of Walt Disney World that Orlando became a highly-coveted destination for global travelers and residents. Today, the tourism and hospitality industry continue to drive the economy in Orlando and the surrounding areas.

In addition to famous theme parks such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld, Orlando is home to several cultural attractions, sports venues and world-famous shopping malls. The Orlando Museum of Art is the city's largest modern art museum, and can be found in Loch Haven Park. The Orange County Regional History Center, Orlando Science Center and Harry P. Leu Gardens are other noteworthy sites to explore when visiting Orlando. The city boasts a thriving nightlife and several free entertainment events and performances throughout the year.
