The Best Western Bandana Square is a budget hotel in Saint Paul's Energy Park District.  The hotel earns positive hotel reviews for its historic ambiance.  It was built inside a former train repair station and boasts a brick exterior and design that brings to mind an era that is now 70 years in the past.  There is nothing aged about this budget hotel's interior though.  Free wireless internet, coupled with premium cable TVs in every room, bring a modern flair to the hotel.  There is an indoor pool, whirlpool and kids' pool.  These recreational features, plus the free continental breakfast, make this one of the better hotel deals in the area.  

The original train track, vaulted ceiling in the lobby and original wood beams give the venue its historic vibe and a boutique atmosphere that is rarely found in inns bearing the Best Western logo.  

Bandana Square itself is a business center and retail space that was once a train station and depot.  Architecture aficionados will love the buildings and faithfully restored décor as much as the shops.  The Minnesota State Fairgrounds are located nearby as well.  The fair, one of the nation's largest, takes place in late August and early September.  

The Como Park Zoo is a free zoo located in an expansive public park.  Main attractions include polar bears, penguins and playful monkeys.  Grand Ave, the city's premier shopping and dining street, is located nearby.  It begins just outside of Downtown Saint Paul.
