San Antonio is a modern, rapidly-growing city in the heart of Texas.  However, it is also one of the state's most historic cities.  San Antonio carries its past with pride, preserving elements of its colonial years and remembering its days as a frontier outpost.  The blend of past and present makes this one of the most interesting urban tourist destinations in the US.



The city's main attraction is the Riverwalk, three miles of stone paths that wind along the San Antonio River.  The area is filled with shops, restaurants, and art galleries. San Antonio is home to several colonial-style missions.  Among them is the historically significant Alamo, site of a bloody but historically important battle during the Texas struggle for independence.

Historians and art lovers alike will enjoy the treasures in San Antonio's many museums and galleries.   Foremost among them is the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, which houses 128 years of Texan history.  The nearby Southwest School of Art and Craft, one of the country's largest art schools, hosts regular exhibits and lectures.  

San Antonio's many theme parks are venues of fun and excitement for families. SeaWorld San Antonio boasts of an in-house zoo, an inverted roller coaster, water skiing shows and performing killer named Shamu. At the Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the city's largest theme park, live entertainment and musical shows add flavor to the collection of exhilarating rides.
