With its unmistakable red roof, tall turrets, and impeccably groomed grounds, the Hotel del Coronado is one of the most unique luxury hotels in San Diego.  It was originally constructed in 1888.  It is one of the only hotels in the country to be designated as a National Historic Landmark (in 1977).  Rooms either face the ocean or the lush courtyard gardens.  The Coronado's many rooms have several different themes.  These options make it a good hotel for a romantic getaway or a family beach vacation.  Each room has designer furnishings, the Coronado's own line of luxury bath products, and terry-cloth robes.  The décor adds to the historic vibe.  It is this classic atmosphere that prompts most of the positive hotel reviews that the Coronado receives.  The resort features lawns and gardens, as well as pools and a full service spa.  

There are no less than a dozen places to eat in the resort.  The Crown Room and 1500 Ocean provide upscale options, while the Sun Deck Bar and Grill and Boardwalk Café offer more laid back experiences.  The sheer amount of choices makes this a true hotel deal for those who are shopping for the perfect luxury hotel.
