The Dolphin Motel occupies a prime piece of real estate near San Diego's waterfront.  It is within 10 minutes of the city's downtown district and a short walk from San Diego Bay.  

This family-run budget hotel has been in operation for more than 30 years and offers one of the best hotel deals in all of San Diego.  Hotel reviews point to the Dolphin's exceptional customer service as its main positive.  Guest can check in early (1 p.m.) and check out after the 11 a.m. deadline if they give advanced notice.  In addition, this budget hotel offers free wi-fi, free cable, and has upper floor rooms that have a view of the harbor.  Free continental breakfast and free parking (not always guaranteed by centrally located hotels) are other amenities that make the $65 price tag seem more than reasonable.  

Nearby Shelter Island is one of San Diego's trademark destinations.  It is characterized by the colorful yachts that populate the marinas along the beach.  In addition, there are plenty of boutique shops and numerous fine dining options.  

There are plenty of beaches along the bay, not far from the Dolphin; the most popular of these is Ocean Beach.  One of San Diego's greatest aquatic adventures is not found along the beach, however.  SeaWorld is known for its exotic marine life and family-friendly atmosphere.  For more land-based natural fun, the San Diego Zoo is only 15 minutes from the Dolphin Motel.
