The Santa Fe International Hostel is a budget hotel that is run by a non-profit organization. Hotel reviews of this youth-centered inn point out that the goal is to help promote independent travel rather than to provide numerous amenities. It would be difficult to find a cheaper budget hotel in Santa Fe. The rooms are dorm-style and guests are expected to clean up after themselves as there is no maid service. However, free breakfast items are available each morning in the kitchen, which is also stocked with lunch and dinner items as well.
Though this is one of the best hotel deals, in terms of price, in all of Santa Fe, few people would say that it has the characteristics of a "dive." There is a social atmosphere thanks to the large, TV-less public spaces and the communal kitchen. There is also a comfortable patio and a wealth of free travel information.
New Mexico has an almost unlimited amount of attractions. For those interested in Native American history and culture, there are exhibit halls like the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, the Institute of American Indian Arts, and the New Mexico History Museum.
There are art galleries throughout the city specializing in Southwestern folk art and a style of contemporary art that is unique to this area of the Southwest. In addition, this is an amazing city for architecture aficionados. Old missions like San Miguel Mission and colonial style churches like the Saint Francis Cathedral are popular for sightseers and photographers.
Attractions and activities found in the Santa Fe area are listed on the Santa Fe County tourism web site (http://www.seesantafe.org/). There is a similar site focused mainly on arts and cultural attractions (http://www.santafecreativetourism.org/).
