Scottsdale began its life as a suburb of Phoenix.  It would probably be unfair to call it a suburb today.  Scottsdale has become more of a sister city, with some of the metro area's best nightclubs, restaurants and golf courses (more than 200 of them).  It is also the home of the city's most upscale shopping venues and finest restaurants.  



The Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall is one of the largest shopping complexes in the country.  Upscale shops like Sak's Fifth Avenue and Ralph Lauren are among the tenants.  

Scottsdale is also a center for the arts.  Art galleries are found just to the west of the city center.  Along with galleries, mainly featuring Southwestern-influenced works, there are plenty of upscale boutiques and cafés.  

But Scottsdale is not completely dominated by the upscale atmosphere.  Old Town hearkens back to the days before gentrification.  This Old West-style area is squarely aimed at tourists, but offers a different side of the city.  

Scottsdale also has plenty of natural beauty beyond its many well manicured golf course fairways. Piestewa Peak is an untouched mountain in the middle of the city.  It features rugged desert landscape and hiking trails of various degrees. Desert Storm Hummer Tours offers excursions to wild Sonoran Desert that sits directly outside of Scottsdale.  

Scottsdale is also the location of many of Phoenix's famous resorts and spas.  Though there are few budget options in town, it is easy to find places like the FireSky Resort or Phoenician, luxury resorts with full-service spas and plenty of extras.  

Clubs like e4 and Axis are some of the most popular nighttime venues in the Phoenix metro area. Handlebar-J Restaurant & Saloon and Cowboy Ciao are for those who want to have a bit of rustic Southwestern flavor with their nighttime fun.
