The Green Tortoise is a unique budget hotel in Seattle. It is centrally located near the Pike Place Market.  Though it's a traditional hostel in every sense of the word, the basic accommodations are more than you'd expect for the price range.  Many luxury hotels charge for wireless internet service.  This service is free at the Tortoise, making it one of Downtown Seattle's best hotel deals.  Dorm beds average $31, with private rooms costing $85 (firmly in the budget hotel price range).    

The hostel has a youthful vibe (to be expected in such a place) that earns it rave hotel reviews from younger travelers.  There are several fun extras like a Wednesday Night open mike show in the lobby.  However, the main positive about the Green Tortoise is its location.  The famed Pike Place Market is directly across the street and other attractions like the Seattle Art Museum and the Space Needle are within walking distance.   

Pike Place Market is a Seattle institution most known for the fish mongers who toss their product to one another over long distances.  While a favorite photo op for visitors, it is not the only place of interest in the market.  Vendors sell crafts, souvenirs and, during the warmer months, flowers.

The Seattle Underground is a network of tunnels and walkways under Downtown Seattle.  The underground used to be the street level until the streets were raised during redevelopment.  Tours of are offered daily.  

The Seattle Art Museum (simply called "SAM" by locals) is housed in an historic building about 3 blocks from The Green Tortoise.  Admission is free on the first Thursday of every month.
