The Panama Hotel is a classic Pacific Rim hotel.  It was originally built in 1910 by a local Japanese architect.  After renovation, the hotel remained faithful to its original design.  It includes the only fully intact Japanese bathhouse in the United States.  A budget hotel, the Panama is one of the best hotel deals in Seattle for those looking for a truly unique experience.   

The rooms have a classic, comfortable feel with white linens and down comforters.  The furniture and artwork hearken back to the hotel's early days.  Each floor has a shared bathroom, giving the hotel a European vibe, more akin to a bed-and-breakfast than a full service budget hotel.  The décor on the stairways and in the lobby adds charm to the Panama Hotel experience. The price for this trip back in time is $85 for a single bed.  The Panama earns positive hotel reviews for its classic charm and unique atmosphere.

Though it is unofficially known as "Chinatown," the International District has more of a pan-Asian feel.  Places like the Panama Hotel show a lot of Japanese influence.  There are also areas with Thai, Filipino, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Korean influences.  

The cultural and commercial center of the International District is Uwajimaya Village.  This Japanese shopping center stocks authentic, imported food and has numerous small family-owned restaurants just off of the main retail area.  

The Panama Hotel is only a few minutes walk from Pioneer Square and the central business district of Seattle.  Pioneer Square is known for its Victorian architecture and a wide range of galleries and independently owned boutiques.
